"Fully thankful to the Lord Jesus" - GBC Bulletin Column #54

My name is Martin. Actually, my given name is Muhammad but I prefer to be called Martin now.  I am from Iran and I am 20 years old. I came to England when I was 15 years old. When I first came to England I was at Bristol City. I went to school and college and I made new friends. I have a Muslim background but I wasn’t interested in Islam and I couldn’t accept it as the one and only true religion. Some of my friends were Christians and that is the start of my new experience in life and I am fully thankful to the Lord Jesus for giving me that opportunity to come to the place where I had the chance of getting to know Him.

Now it has been almost a year since I have started coming to church. One of my friends, whose name is Yafiet Abraha , told me and invited me to church and Christianity and asked me to read the Bible. Whenever we were meeting, he used to talk to me and tell me about Christianity and the Lord Jesus Christ. So I started going to church every Sunday and I really loved the atmosphere and the people. Going to church for the first time is not that easy if you are from a Muslim background. However, when I went to church people there made me feel completely welcome and I have to say I have never met anybody as friendly as Christians before.

Now some of you may be wondering how I came to trust in Jesus.  Actually it is very hard for me to put all the things into words really but I shall try.  I believe in Jesus because he is the only way to God and he died on the cross and washed away my sins and rose again. He is the only one who is perfect and can forgive my sins and let me to come to the kingdom of God.  Jesus said whoever shall follow me will never be in the darkness and I believe he is the only true light showing the right way to God. He is the Son of God sent by God to the world to show and tell us and wake us up from sleeping in the darkness to walk in the light, to die for us and take away our sins so we could be reborn and live again and have a fresh start and avoid doing any sins and live in the way that pleases the Lord Jesus Christ. When I was very depressed and hopeless He helped me and gave me the strength not to give up. He gave me happiness and since I am trusting in him I don’t feel alone any more, I believe he is there for me and he will show me the right way somehow in some way. When my life gets hard to live I don’t get upset because I believe  there is a reason why I am in that position and the Lord  wants to tell me something or wants me to do something that is right.

As I mentioned before I have a Muslim background and I have been a part of the Muslim community but I haven't seen anything as amazing as I have seen with Christians. For example: peace and how people love to make peace among each other, happiness , friendship and how easily they make friends,  brotherhood , helping others and caring for others just like you would do for yourself.

This was printed in the worship bulletin of Grace Baptist Church (Wood Green) on 06 July 2014. In the morning service of that day, Martin was baptised upon his profession of faith in obedience to the command of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ into the membership of the church. Please pray for his growth in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, for his perseverance by the Spirit's power, and for his ongoing witness to the gospel. Pray also for the salvation of a Muslim friend Martin has been bringing to church for the the past couple of months who is seriously considering the gospel.
