Netherlands - Grace Baptist Partnership Month of Prayer and Giving 2021

Every day for the next month, I am going to be posting profiles I have written about local churches for the Grace Baptist Partnership Month of Prayer and Giving. Please read, pray, and give as able for this important ministry. Day 29: Netherlands.

Through your prayers and giving, you are our partners in proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ. Pray that we would continue to do so with all boldness and without hindrance!

It wasn’t part of their plan. At the beginning of 2020, Adrian, Abigail, and their son Micaiah Yeboah were in South London, where Adrian was co-pastor of Bridge Church Peckham. Adrian - who is a Dutch citizen and speaks the language - had a long-term gospel-shaped ambition to be involved in church planting in the Netherlands, but they wouldn’t be pursuing that in the immediate future. Plans change! Considerations relating to Britain’s exit from the EU, several discussions, and much prayer lead the Yeboahs to decide: 2020 was the year they would move.

It surely wasn’t going to be possible. Moving to another country in 2020, with its global pandemic, multiple lockdowns, travel restrictions, closed borders, and burdened bureaucracy? There were also other factors to consider: financial challenges, a church that would send them, and suitable accommodation that they could register as their home before 2021. God had rearranged their plan - surely, God would make everything possible? Let Adrian testify:

In God’s providence, the pandemic opened up an opportunity for my wife, Abigail, to

continue her job indefinitely overseas with the approval and support of her employers, a

timely answer to prayer. God provided us a wonderful new church family in Grace Baptist

Church Wood Green, who were prepared to support and pray for us, and to send us with

their blessing and fellowship, for this new task in the Netherlands. Their continued support

and fellowship has been invaluable. Much prayer was needed, as there was still the

challenge of finding a place to live and to register before Brexit. Income requirements for

housing in the Randstad cities are high, but at the time living on a single salary meant it

ordinarily would not be possible for us to find a place on time despite all our efforts. This

was coupled with the challenge of the November lockdown in the UK. Thankfully, God

provided a rare opportunity for an affordable apartment to rent in Rotterdam South,

without the ordinary income requirements. Our new brothers and sisters, and fellow

labourers in this area described it as huge answer to prayer, since Rotterdammers are

struggling to find homes at the moment. We were able to register on time, and are in the

process of settling,  but having seen God’s hand at work and the support of brothers and

sisters in the UK we look forward to prayerfully developing plans for serving and planting

here, and to continually being reminded, through experience, of our absolute continual

dependence upon God.

Praise the Lord for his leading of and provision for the Yeboahs despite the challenges faced, and pray for their continuing strength, clarity, faith, and provision of all things - not least financial support.

Pray that the good relationships the Yeboahs enjoy with other gospel-minded individuals, churches, and organisations would continue to grow and serve the progress of the gospel.

Pray that the Yeboahs will continue to settle in well, particularly with the recent birth of their second sonPray for their sons, Micky and Myles, that they will grow and develop to honour their parents, to know and love the Lord, and to serve him.
