False Teachers - GBC Bulletin Column #2

Recently Christian rapper Shai Linne released Lyrical Theology Part One, which included the track ‘FAL$E TEACHER$’. Towards the end he raps

Don't be deceived by this funny biz,
If you come to Jesus for money, then he's not your God, money is!
Jesus is not a means to an end,
The Gospel is He came to redeem us from sin,
And that is the message
Forever I’ll yell!
If you're living your best life now you're headed for hell!

Shai then raps a list of well-known religious TV personalities who preach the unequivocally false prosperity ‘gospel’: Joel Osteen, Creflo Dollar, Benny Hinn, T. D. Jakes, Joyce Meyer, among others. A furious flurry of subjective, emotional responses followed as fans rushed to defend their favourite preachers, outraged at such ‘name-dropping’, which they believed was inappropriate.

Chances are, you've heard the same names dropped in a similar way at Grace Baptist Church, Wood Green. Why? We need to discern real sheep from wolves that have just come from the fancy dress shop. Jesus often called out the Jewish leaders of his day, and Paul refers to dangerous individuals by name (as in 1 Tim. 1:20; 2 Tim. 2:16-18, 4:10, 14-15). These are dark, depraved individuals: “waterless springs and mists driven by a storm. For them the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved. For, speaking loud boasts of folly, they entice by sensual passions of the flesh those who are barely escaping from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption...” (2 Peter 2:17-19). As Paul encourages us, “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them” (Ephesians 5:11).

This was printed in the worship bulletin of Grace Baptist Church (Wood Green) 05/05/2013. The rap that I reference is found below.
